Energy Patterns: How Do They Affect Our Lives?

Once I started working with people in private practice, now 35 years ago, it didn’t take me long to notice that similar patterns were at play across diverse types of people and circumstances. This intrigued me because it seemed to me that something was happening that didn’t fit into the current knowledge our society was exposed to. I had accepted that my own life path would be distinctly separate from the societal norm most people lived in. But within this emerging perception that was becoming obvious to me, I felt a sense of common ground. Perhaps there was a way we all functioned that wasn’t yet understood.

When patterns are spoken of and taught about, they are usually referred to as mental, emotional, or physical. Patterns are actually energetic. They affect your thoughts, emotions, feelings, and physical body, but their structure, the way they’re created, and the way they’re stored by your system, is energetic. They hold valuable information for your healing in all forms and, therefore, are a critical part of attaining and maintaining health.

There are many paths a healing process can take, and there is no one way that works for everyone. For me, gaining an understanding of the energetic part of my system was key to recognizing and dealing with the patterns I needed to resolve to maintain my health. I have found that this is true for others, and it has changed my life and the lives of clients caught in the chaos of repeating patterns.

How do these energetic patterns form, and what information do they hold within them? This is a wide topic. I am going to start in this post with patterns formed from the time of your birth.

As the Energy Senses post explained, you were born using all your senses and all parts of your system. During babyhood and childhood, the energetic part of your system is actively involved, informing you about the world around you and reacting accordingly to people, animals, nature, and your environment. Energetic patterns develop from experiences you have. They are an energetic snapshot of a moment in time, recording, within each pattern, memory, emotions, thoughts, feelings, and physical condition, including any symptoms. The impetus for their creation is generally an experience where you felt strong emotion, which can be positive, negative, or somewhere in between, like a pendulum swing.

The patterns that people usually find most problematic are from early childhood, when an experience caused emotion to be felt that resulted in difficult feelings. Children don’t understand how to resolve these feelings. Each child is unique and is affected differently, but most children in Western society learn quite young that their true nature is not necessarily accepted or welcomed. Adapting to the rules of a society can be traumatic in itself, as well as whatever personal encounters or events were disturbing for you.

This becomes complicated as time goes on. For example, children live in the moment. When a promise is made and then not fulfilled, emotions can range from disappointment to grief. The energetic snapshot is taken when the emotion is felt, creating an energetic pattern, recording the associated memory, emotion, thoughts, feelings, physical condition, and symptoms, if any. This pattern is stored in your personal energetic field, and I believe an associated pattern is stored in a part of your physical body.

Perhaps the emotion you felt had to do with trust. You may have associated feelings and thoughts that it hurts to trust what someone you love tells or promises you, and it feels better not to count on them. This is the beginning of a pattern that will pop up in all manner of relationships, and you may not realize it. In the next post, we’ll delve more specifically into how patterns affect your relationships. Here, I want you to understand that every time an experience happens that evokes your thoughts and feelings around trust, another energetic pattern is created and is attached to the prior pattern based on similar thoughts and feelings. The memory will be different, and often the physical condition and symptoms can change or progress, but the connection is there to your past related patterns.

By the time you are an adult, you will probably have at least one pattern series that needs to be seen and healed. This is the place where a guide is so helpful. I have assisted many who are working to alleviate thoughts, feelings, or physical ailments arising from their patterns. As awareness grows, it’s easier to recognize when the pattern shows up, and progress can be made. The issue that always crops up is that there is not just one pattern, not just one experience to work through. Each pattern is processed individually. You do the work and have some relief as you gain understanding of your thoughts and feelings that came to the surface. Yet, the next time a similar situation occurs, here come the same thoughts and feelings, and you are frustrated and dejected. Many people abandon their healing process, believing that they have not accomplished anything.

Actually, you were successful. You moved through a pattern, but there is another related pattern behind it from a different experience. In essence, you are healing backward. The first energy pattern in a series that comes up during an external event will be the latest one that happened. Determining what your thoughts and feelings were is the first step in healing the original pattern where it all started. But you may not have awareness of all involved immediately.

It’s not necessary to remember each experience. Knowing how your patterns are created and stored can help you recover patience and keep going. It’s the childhood patterns that take the most work, simply because they have been forming for most of your life, and you often don’t remember everything. But your feelings and thoughts are what matter for healing. Identifying them leads to the next related pattern rising to the surface, allowing you deeper insight, and this continues until you reach the source pattern.

It will be current external encounters and events that will expose you to the trigger(s) that bring up the pattern. In the beginning, resistance is a normal human response. You may blame others for your feelings, or you might believe this is your fate and can’t be changed. Neither is true. You have a choice when you find thoughts and feelings flood you, and you feel uncomfortable or distressed. You can either get lost in the pattern of what’s happening in the moment externally, or you can realize that you are being given an opportunity to heal something deep within yourself. If you can step back and process how your thoughts and feelings are connected to your current experience, then, in your own time, you can consider how they were also present in past experiences, and you are working toward recognition of where this pattern started.

Obviously, it is easier to remember details from a pattern that is created in adulthood. Someone says something hurtful, and you will remember the words and circumstances. Because of this, you have more clarity when processing your feelings and thoughts. Healing often can happen quickly, especially if you are used to working with your whole self.

It is definitely possible to heal patterns begun in childhood, but it is challenging if you are resistant or don’t understand that you are healing backward through related energy patterns.

Take your time with this information. Think about a pattern that you have witnessed in your life, whether your own or someone else’s. It is often much easier to see another’s patterns with more clarity than seeing your own. However, remember that you will never truly know how another being feels inside themselves unless they understand it and are willing to share. Knowing yourself deeply is an ongoing, life-long process, extremely worthwhile, and an intricate, important part of your life’s journey. Staying open to your process increases your opportunity for good health and will help you to better understand people whom you care about, as well as people in general.
